Keep this checklist for your own comparison. It does not send information to PayOffMyBills or a lender.
- Current plan: Total balances, each APR, required payments, sustainable monthly budget and payoff estimate.
- New loan: Legal lender name, loan principal, net funds received, fixed or variable interest rate, disclosed APR and term.
- Fees: Origination amount, whether it is deducted or paid separately, late-payment terms and any prepayment charge.
- Total cost: Scheduled payment × number of payments, adjusted for the final payment, plus any separately paid fees. Compare with the same debts in your existing plan.
- Practical check: Does the loan cover the intended debts? Who pays creditors? When do payments start? Confirm old accounts are paid and check the next statements.
- Budget check: Keep essentials and a cash cushion funded. Decide how to avoid new balances on paid-off cards.
- Provider check: Confirm the provider and product. A settlement program is different from a consolidation loan. Read the privacy and contact permissions before submitting.
Optional homeowner checklist
- Property secures the loan; missed payments can put the home at risk.
- Record closing costs, existing mortgage obligations, available equity, rate adjustments and repayment terms.
- For a HELOC, understand the draw period, minimum-payment structure, repayment-period increase and any balloon payment.
- Compare the complete cost with unsecured and non-loan alternatives.
Keep the choices separate
